Change the phone number while keeping the old chat safe thanks to the unique feature in WhatsApp.
Before WhatsApp, messaging was limited to text and MMS (multimedia messaging) service was used to send photos and videos, but there were many obstacles.
WhatsApp has changed the way it sends messages around the world, but one of the major drawbacks is that if the number entered by the user when creating the WhatsApp account, the old chat history is lost if the number is changed.
If you want to change the WhatsApp number with your old chat, then there is no need to worry, because WhatsApp already has a feature called Change Number.
Before implementing the step-by-step instructions for changing the number, keep in mind that there are some limitations set by WhatsApp for this feature.
1. The old number being replaced with the new number must be enabled to receive calls and messages.
2. This feature only works for a number change. If you are changing your device along with the number, then back up the WhatsApp on your old phone, then install it on the new phone, then change the number.
Follow the steps below to change the number while preserving your old chat on WhatsApp.
1. Turn on the WhatsApp on your Android / iPhone
2. Go to Settings and tap on Account
3. Here you will see 'Change Number', select it. A new screen will appear in front of you which says 'Changing the number will migrate all your account information, groups and other settings.' Now press the Next button.
4. You will be asked to enter the old and new number. Enter both numbers and tap Next.
5. You will receive a message confirming your decision to change the WhatsApp number, asking, 'Do you want people in your phonebook to be notified of this change? '
In this step you will be given three options All contacts, Contacts I have chats with and Custom, after selecting the custom option then tap on Done.
After tapping Done, WhatsApp will ask you to register a new number. To confirm this, a 6-digit security code will be sent via SMS.
After completing the registration process your new number will change from the old number, now you can continue the old chat with the new number.
