The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) says that sales of new vehicles in Europe more than doubled in the second quarter, while hybrids also benefited. The French news agency AFP, the ACEA said on Friday that "from April to June this year, the share of all-electric vehicles in sales of new vehicles in Europe was 7.5%, up from 3.5% last year."Sales of battery-powered vehicles have tripled to 210,298 across Europe.
The ACEA said, "the top four markets in the region saw significant gains, with sales quadrupling in Spain and Germany."The second quarter of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) 2021 was even more impressive, with registrations increasing by 255.8 per cent to 235,730 units," the ACEA said.
Sales of the hybrid have also tripled to 541,162 vehicles.
Meanwhile, car sales fell as compared to the second quarter of last year, when many European countries imposed strict trade restrictions due to the epidemic, leading to an increase in the registration of new petrol and diesel vehicles. ۔ However, in terms of market share, sales of petrol and diesel vehicles have declined sharply.
The market share of diesel has come down from 29.4 per cent to 20.4 percent while that of petrol has come down from 51.9 per cent to 41.8 per cent. Automobile companies are stepping up their plans to build electric vehicles.
